Why so many different programs? I look programs as tools in a tool chest. Even when it comes to modeling, I'll work with the best, or my favorite, features of each. Whenever you are recreating a character or person that has, or does exist in some form (even as a puppet), it's important to collect as much reference material and images as you can. While the internet yielded some decent pictures of Hoggle, the best images came from viewing the "Labyrinth" DVD and taking screen captures. I tried to find good front and side views to use the the orthogonal windows of the modeling program. Below is a collage of reference images I used.

There are situations where a phenomenon's velocity or speed is related to it's behavior or appearance. Perhaps the incandecence increases as a particle moves faster... or the color changes from blue to red. Perhaps some dust is resting on an object, but once it gets blown away it also begins to dissipate and fade. These effects can be achieved by understanding how to reference particle speed, which is not a default particle attribute.

![]() Easy Object Pickup, How to have characters easily grab objects and keep them in their hand I real life, you don't have to worry about fingers passing through objects in order to pick them up. The density of your hand is sufficiently large enough to cause friction when you hand collides with other pieces of solid matter, thereby allowing you to grab hold of something and not letting it slip through the proverbial fingers. But with CGI characters, they could walk through Fort Knox without tripping over all the pesky guards that would usually get in the way of you or me. But unlike you or me, they would have a problem when they tried to grab the gold, for their grubby little mitts wouldn't be able to hold a tea cup without an animator's assistance, let alone a solid gold brick. So, as an animator, how are you going to have your character grab that bar so you can pay off your loan shark? This tutorial offers a solution, which I hope is easy to grasp..
