Want to make things move inside 3ds max?? then you should start here, we'll cover the basics of keyframe animation, moving, scaling and adjusting a simple model and finally rendering it all into an .AVI file.

In this tutorial i will be showing you the basics of the new Hair and Fur modifier in max 8. I will show you how to change the colour, style the hair, use hair presets, select an area of an object to put hair on and much more.

![]() Candle - model, shaders, render - 55 min. In this almost 1 whole hour! tutorial we'll model a candle standing on a table from scratch, once the model is complete we'll UVW map the table and then bring the UVWmap into photoshop to texture it. We'll use displacement to add detail to the table. Then we use a Mental Ray SSS (sub surface scattering) shader to give the candle a realistic look and to finish off use volume light for some atmosphere around the whole scene. In the last part we'll also use photoshop to take our final result a little further by adding glow and some smoke.

![]() Organic Modeling Video Tutorial Series Multi-part video tutorial series on modeling a human head from reference photos in 3D Studio Max. Covers initial setup of reference planes, topology considerations, a novel organic modeling approach, unwrapping the objects UVs, and creating the necessary textures.

![]() clay rendering (several techniques) Why this boring gray render, well it's pretty usefull because many people ask for critique and comments on their model and by making a clay render most of the details (and problems) your model has are visible. There are several ways to create a clay render we'll try 3 different techniques in this tutorial using the default scanline renderer, mental ray, and mental ray shaders.

During this tutorial you'll learn how to customize the 3ds max interface, this might seem pretty useless but it's actually really important. When your done you will work faster and more efficient and you can set colours, create your own menu's, quad menu's and hotkey's. So if you want to work faster and you need to make a deadline it's a good idea to learn about UI customization!

In this tutorial you'll learn the basics of poly modeling, we'll start with simple objects like boxes and cylinders and the convert them to editable poly. Then we can start shaping the model by extruding, cutting, and moving vertices and poly's. Once we have finished modeling we'll make the final result more realistic by making a reflective (raytrace) shader, also called material in 3dsmax, and set up a simple scene to render.

![]() neon (or lightsaber), using Mental Ray In this tutorial we'll use the Mental Ray renderer with special shaders to make objects glow, but the objects are also illuminating the scene for a more realistic result using Final Gather. You'll learn how to unlock (camera) shaders which are hidden by default (glare) and we'll apply the glow shader to the objects and tweak the settings for a better result. When your done you can easily make a similar scene but then model a lightsaber instead and animate it or you could make some neon signs, enjoy.

![]() Mental Ray lighting, using GI and FG In this tutorial you'll learn how to make a realistic render using Mental Ray with Global Ilumination (GI) and Final Gather (FG), it's not about modeling the scene but only the light setup and adjusting that until we're satisfied. (Only suitable for new users.)

Have you ever wanted to animate a car crash or any objects colliding, flying through the air. If you've tried that you know it's very difficult if at all possible to manually keyframe such animations. There's a solution off course, Reactor, a system built into 3ds max to animate collission and thing like that using physics. We'll teach you the basics, a simple car crashing into a wall of boxes, reactor does most of the work for us, we just have to adjust some settings and that's it!

This time we'll model , UVW map and texture pottery, to make the scene final we're also making a dry/ desert like surface using displacement to add some cracks. (Suitable only for Beginner users)

This time you'll learn how to set up a scene with MR(mental ray) lights, add simple objects , set them to create and receive caustics, then make some shaders which create caustics like raytrace and glass.

We start by making a Pflow source and then animate some simple airplane placeholder objects as the target for our 'missile' particles, finally we'll make a simple explosion when the 2 collide and also destroy the missile particle.

![]() Terrain, grass ( Hair and fur) In this tutorial we'll use 3ds max to model a simple environment and then use vertext paint to create an area which we'll fill with grass using the hair and fur modifier (new in 3ds max 8).
