Lathe - Wine Glass

This tutorial is very thorough; it will take about two hours to complete. In it, you’ll construct a professional quality model from real-world reference. You’ll learn to create custom curves using Editable Spline, apply and adjust a Lathe modifier, and control the level of detail of your model. You’ll also learn all about how to set up a 3ds Max scene for the correct real-world scale. This is a very important process, but it’s not obvious to new users. So that is where we’ll begin, setting a scene and establishing good habits for digital asset management. Along the way, we’ll also take a look at customizing the 3ds Max user interface. We will set the color and layout of the viewports to our preferences.

Local Coordinates - Tea Party

In this tutorial, you'll learn the basics of working with Local coordinates. World coordinates are the XYZ axes of the world, also known as the Home Grid or the Construction Grid. Local coordinates are the XYZ axes of each object. The local coordinate system is necessary for convincing animation. This is especially true for rotating objects such as character joints. Without it, the character's arms and legs would twist and break in impossible ways. Local coordinates are directly related to the object's Pivot Point. An object turns around its Pivot Point. The Pivot Point is the center of object transforms, and the origin of the object's local coordinates. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to move the Pivot Point, so that an object can turn more realistically.

3ds Max Basics

n this tutorial, you'll learn to use the Text primitive and the Bevel modifier to create a 3D logo. 3ds Max makes it easy to create 3D text for motion graphics. The Bevel modifier gives you a lot of control over the look of the 3D text. For example, it can have angled or rounded sides. This technique can be extended to create other flat objects, such as tabletops. It's also easy to make custom 3D logos from splines created in 3ds Max, or paths imported from Adobe Illustrator.
